A press release from EA's UK branch pulls back the tarp on the Ultimate Speed pack, a collection of new cars – the Pagani Zonda R, McLaren F1LM, Lamborghini Aventador J and Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse – and 25 new events to conquer. There's also a new Most Wanted car to take down and own, the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder.

The Ultimate Speed pack will be available for download on December 18 in the UK, for 800 MS Points ($10) through Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and Origin. There is no specific announcement for North America yet; however, most of the time DLC launches worldwide

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Need for Speed Most Wanted. While I may not be overly enamored with the multiplayer aspect of the game, the single player has kept me more than entertained. When I heard about the first DLC for Most Wanted called The Ultimate Speed pack, it was a no brainer for me that I would be hitting the streets of Fairhaven in five new rides.

There are a total of 5 new cars to terrorize your friends Autolog times with. They include the Pagani Zonda R, McLaren F1 LM, Lamborghini Aventador J, and the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. The Hennessey Venom GT Spyder draws the spot as the newest Most Wanted car for racers to take down in order to be able to use.

Along with the five new rides there are 25 new races and speed runs and 70 speed-themed car milestones for the multiplayer. There are two new races that really stand out for me. First is Around the World, although it’s not entirely new. Around the World is a race that is in the multiplayer portion of the game, but was not used for the single player. It’s a long, long race that takes you around the interstate of Fairhaven – look for this race to take around ten to twelve minutes. The second race and my personal favorite from this DLC is Burning Bridges. It’s a fairly short race, but has amazing lines that reward you if you hit them, but punish you if you are slightly off course.

I really like the new cars; they seem “lighter” and easier to handle than the higher end cars. Although, I don’t think (aside from one of the DLC cars) that they are all faster than a few of the cars from the base game. So, the term Ultimate Speed pack doesn’t make all that much sense to me in the long run. I have two other qualms about this DLC as well.

The biggest one is the price. For 800 MSP I expect quite a bit of content and playtime. Secondly, and this will be minor to most people, but there are only 80 achievement points to earn across four new achievements. Two for single player (winning every race with each of the new cars, and taking down the Hennessey) and two for multiplayer (both involve grinding certain milestones). In a game where there are literally so many things to do, the four new achievements seem like a copout and requiring players to grind out multiplayer time is also disappointing.

This is a hard conclusion for me to write. On one hand, I enjoyed the new cars and most of the new races, thankfully no Ambush events. Yet, on the other hand I’m not sure I can really recommend this pack as I feel the price in ratio of content is pretty lopsided. I have no problem being asked to fork over $5 for some new cars and races, but when you get to that $10 range the content needs to be exemplary and offer a lot of playtime. I just don’t think this gets to that level. For the hardcore Need for Speed Most Wanted fans this is probably a hesitant buy, for the casual fans you are probably better off just sticking to the cars and races from the base game.
